Earlier in the year, or maybe it was late last year, there was a peculiar smell in the darkroom, one of those; "There's something dead under the refrigerator" smells...
From time to time I would look for the source of the smell, but despite it's strength, I just could not find it.
Some time later, quite some time later, long after the smell subsided, I was using up the last of a box full of boxes of inexpensive film and there it was, under the film, in the corner. A dead mouse. Usually I just would have entered his little body into the fossil record, but this one was special. Not special for smelling for so long, but special in the way he died. His little body had simply dried up and in a somewhat odd, strangely cute pose. Well, maybe cute is not quite the right word for a dead mouse, but it's the best one I can think up at 2:18 am. ;-)
Using the macro capabilities of my little Ricoh digital camera, I simply set the camera up on my Bogan tripod (the tiny camera looks silly on the tripod, but it works quite well) and I set the mouse up on a folded negative envelop and used the overhead florescent light for illumination.
Enjoy the following images. Some are clickable so you can enjoy the original image size for your desktop wallpaper, well if you are into displaying dead mice on your desktop....

I'm not sure why this photo came out green, the color blance of the camera must have been affected by the smell.... |
