_________________________________________The pair has remained together since their release in December. They have been frequenting the vicinity of the Engineer Springs acclimation pen during this reporting period. The five Strayhorse pack members are currently being held in this pen prior to their release into the wild.
HAWKS NEST PACK (HN):On January 27, the HN alpha male was captured with a modified foot-hold trap near the CB accllimation pen. The female released with the HN male in December has been held in the CB pen since January 16. The male was placed in the CB acclimation pen with his potential mate. Both wolves appear to be doing fine.
STRAYHORSE PACK (SH)The five-member Strayhorse pack remains in the Engineer Springs acclimation pen. The pack consists of a three- year-old alpha male, a four-year -old alpha female, and their three eight-month- old pups (two males, one female).
PIPESTEM PACK (PS)The four-member Pipestem pack remains in the Turkey Creek acclimation pen. The pack consists of a four- year-old alpha male, a three-year- old alpha female, and their two eight-month -old pups (both females).
Caretakers camps have been set up 0.5 miles away from all acclimation pens for security and management of the wolves. A closure of approximately one square mile- radius around the pens remains in effect while the wolves occupy the pens. The wolves are being fed road-killed ungulates while in the pen, and will be held throughout the breeding season.
