Adventures in Death Valley. The Devil's Golf course... Back down the mountain, down to the very bottom of the valley, well, not quite the very bottom, that was Badwater, but pretty much the bottom all the same. A huge section of this ex-lake is nothing but large blocks of muddy salt. They call this area the Devil's Golf course.
The sign (click the link above if you want to read it) warned folks about the danger of walking on such rugged ground on sharp salt. Wow, a fall could hurt out here. It also told you how to search for details and details did abound. I got to use the macro setting on the coolpix a lot here. The salt and all it's forms was fantastic. I only spent a half hour or so exploring, but I found quite a lot including weird salt bubble things, stuff which looked like miniature castles and even salt in the form of little filaments. It was great fun, but I definitely can't imagine being out here in the heat of the summer. OUCH! |
