Adventures in Death Valley. OK, finally, the actual Artist's Palate...
Just as the road began to head back down hill, just past that last canyon, was the namesake of this road. Artist's Palate. It's a really cool formation of reds, yellows, greens and purples all perfected through the process of decomposition. I'm sure glad decomposing rocks and minerals do not smell ;-)
This was a pretty popular spot. I saw people all along the way today once I got as far as Badwater, but this was definitely a well traveled area. There was even a father and three sons, well, I'm assuming he was the father, but anyway, they were ahead and I had to take my time doing other stuff because they were running all up and down these hills and I really did not want to have people pictures today. They sure had a lot of fun though and it was quite impressive that none of them ended up rolling down one of the hills. Although, I do think some ended up sliding down on their rears - they looked quite dusty when done.
