Every year I travel east to the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey when each spring they hold a Wolf Birthday Party for their wolves. It's a party for the public as well and quite a lot of fun.

On my way out, I like to stop at one of the counties newest wolf facilities, Wolf Timbers, in Bolivar, Ohio. They have two Wolf Park wolves from our 1997 litters, Nira a beautiful black male, and Keeley, a petite double Pugs female ;-)

I have not seen these wolves in about a year and so they were really excited when I arrived (they remember you forever) so I brought them a couple pig ears so they would be a bit distracted. Keeley was content to just go off on her own and eat hers. She is a bit shy. Nira, on the other hand, well, he is a bit rowdy.

Nira ran all over the place, whining and trying to greet, all the while holding his pig ear. He was very cute. Finally he laid down and chewed it briefly, then he cached it. Keeley had finished her ear so immediatly went to Nira's stole it and for the next 15 minutes they played keep-a-way with the ear.

Keeley also got a lot of treats, well, so did Nira. They do a lot of work using food rewards to train the wolves to do things with people rather than to people and for the most part it is working out great.

I got some really fun photos of Keeley eating treats. Some very silly expressions here...

When not jumping on me, Keeley and Nira did a lot of wrestling and generally having fun.
Keeley, Nira and Marty, the director and Carol, one of the volunteers, who makes great Biscotti. Carol is also great at wolf training.
And finally a rather colorful image of Nira greeting Marty....
